"Mud Cookies"
28" h X 54" w

Grain is scarce in Haiti and the cost of food has escalated.
Poor Haitian women mix salt and shortening with dirt and clay to make a food staple they call "mud cookies". The dirt mixture is formed into small round shapes, baked on tarps in the sun, and sold at markets.  Many pregnant women rely on mud cookies for daily sustenance

"DARkly FURgotten"
30"h x 40" w

In a radio interview with a doctor in the Sudan, I heard him speak of treating a woman's wrists that had been cut down to the bone.  She had been hung from a tree and molested by the Janjaweed Militia for three days.  I have sewn this woman amidst a sea of trees to represent Darfur's countless victims.  She holds a replica of earth based on a EUMETSAT satellite of Africa's dust storms and asks
" Will my story remain darkly forgotten?".

Our beautiful planet is suffering from heat exhaustion.Observe planet earth through a EUMETSAT (Europe's counterpart to our NOAA) satellite image taken of earth's air masses.
Toy cars circling earth represent our childlike oblivion to the consequenses of burning fossil fuels.  Our exhaust emissions are altering the very fabric of our atmosphere"

"Inappropriate Remarks May Result In Your Arrest"
41" h x 36" w

While waiting in the Houston airport I heard a computerized loudspeaker voice repeat this message every few minutes:

"Our security threat level is...........orange. Inapproporate remarks may result in your arrest".

To paraphrase Ben Franklin" Those who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither."
