March 2010 News

"Mud Cookies" (pictured below) is featured in an invitational exhibit in the Rose Room Gallery of the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach March 8
through April 30, 2010. The exhibit "Cacophony of Fiber", curated by Mary McBride, includes work from 26 international artists.

"The circles in 'Mud Cookies' may remind one of musical notes floating down the work but their playful image belies the story behind Patricia Anderson Turner's
award winning fiber art piece depicting a poor Haitian woman mixing dirt and clay with salt and shortening to make a food staple called "mud cookies".
Many pregnant women in Haiti have relied on these for  daily sustenance.
The work is based on photos by Turner's friend Ariana Cubillos taken before the earthquake.

Each exhibit will last two months.  The first is at our charitable endowment
gem, the Charlotte Community Foundation in Punta Gorda, FL, this May and June 2010.
